Family Movie Night This Weekend!!!

Alfred Saliba Family Services Center hosts Movie Night

This Saturday, April 20, 2024, the Work Plus+ department is hosting a Movie Night at the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center located at 301 West Lafayette Street. Food and snacks will be provided. Please bring your own chair, towel, or blanket. The event is to be located to the west of our Center, across from S. Lena Street. FMI, contact Work Plus+ at 334-712-0328.

20th Edition of the TriStates 100- Saturday, June 1, 2024

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center will host the 20th edition of the TriStates 100 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Dothan, Alabama. This year is our second year hosting the event in partnership with the Dothan Area Cyclists (DAC).

The TriStates 100 is the only ride in the area that expands 3 states (Alabama, Georgia, and Florida). Ride distances are 25, 43, 63, or 104 miles. Members of the Church will again serve a pre-ride breakfast from 5:00 – 7:30 A.M. Group start times are based on anticipated speed and distance. The first ride out is at 7:00 A.M. Each distance will have rest stops, with the Century ride having seven available stops. These locations (and the routes) can be seen on Ride with GPS. Upon completion, Bethel Baptist Church permits the riders to use their showers, and a post-ride lunch will be available. The Brickyard Bike Company will provide services before and after the ride.

Packet pickup and late registration will again be at the Courtyard by Marriott, located at 3040 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan AL 36301, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 31, 2024. A “day of” registration table will be near the finish line from 5:00 A.M. until ride time.

Basic Mig Welding Class Returns

The Basic Mig Welding class, instructed through Wallace College, returns on October 16, 2023. Class times will be Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

The Basic Mig Welding program prepares students for employment in the welding industry as structural welders in a production environment. Students will gain hands-on experience with Oxy-fuel cutting, Plasma Arc Cutting, Gas Metal Arc Welding, and an overview of blueprint reading and basic mathematics. The program includes various welding experiences for structural and production welding. Students can exit the program with a certificate in welding and an AWS welding certification. In addition, the Wallace Campus has been designated by the American Welding Society as an Accredited Testing Facility.

Cost: $3,500; includes textbook and tool kit

Requirement:  state-issued photo ID

Students must be at least 18 years old

Office Space Available at the Mixson Business Center

The MBC intends to provide entrepreneurs and existing small businesses with all the services and equipment needed to operate and advance their businesses into future growth.

We are a 9,000 sq. ft. small business incubator with 17 private business offices in various sizes. Prices ranges from $250 to $400 per month, which includes utilities, internet, basic office furniture, phones, and conference rooms for meetings. Our location is beneficial because we are in Dothan’s prime downtown business hub. At the MBC, we extend our invitation to become a part of what is known as the incubator success story for your small business.

    

The MBC also leases individual offices across the parking lot from the center. Each has private access and varies in size. Tenants are responsible for their utilities. Please call the Mixson Business Center at 334-836-0217 or visit us for more information, including the latest vacancies. Our hours are M – Thr 8 am to 4 pm and 8-3 pm on Fridays.

Alfred Saliba Family Services Center Dolly Parton Imagination Library

We want to announce we now have more than 300 children throughout Houston County participating in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. More than 600 developmentally appropriate books have now shipped to our local families.

Any child residing in Houston County from birth to five years of age can receive a free book in the mail each month. Children can be signed up for the program by coming to our center or by going to Check Availability – Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Children from other counties may also be eligible but must select that county during registration. FMI, please call our Intake Department at 334-712-1542.

Saliba Center TriStates 100 Fundraising Recap

 

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center hosted the TriStates 100 and their “Tykes on Trikes” at the Bethel Baptist Church in Dothan, Alabama.
The TriStates 100 began with breakfast for the riders provided by Bethel Baptist Church before the first departure at 7 am for those taking on the 100-mile plus challenge. The Century event took participants into Georgia and Florida before returning to Dothan, Alabama. Other rides consisted of 63, 43, or 25 miles. Upon their return, all riders could enjoy a post-ride lunch and a trip to the 360-degree photo booth.

The “Tykes on Trikes” event kicked off at 11 am, with children able to participate in numerous activities before having lunch. After eating, riders mounted their trikes and rode a little after 1:00, with all children successfully reaching the finish line. At the conclusion, each child had his or her photograph taken on the new tricycle that was theirs to keep.

The next Saliba Center TriStates 100 and Tykes on Trikes are scheduled for June 2024.
